Special Cases

Can you, or someone you know assist us to help these 'special cases'. We need adopters, foster homes and sponsors for these poor animals recently admitted to our shelter. All the animals in our shelter (currently 140 dogs and 78 cats) are precious, but these poor souls need extra love and care. Their stories and pictures follow please take a few minutes to read about them and look at their pictures.  Contact any one of us if you would like to help.  We thank you!

Angel is sending a big "THANK YOU" to all of YOU (!!!), the wonderful people who have helped pay for her surgeries and medical care.  Click here to read her diaries (will open as a word document), curtesy of Susie, who wrote it all down as it was told by Angel, as she lay recovering in Susie's home.  We are so greatful to you - words cannot express our gratitude.  We could have never done it without your help.  Thank you to the following people and organizations who have made this possible:  Sean Burke,  Katrina Morrison,  C K Yoe,  Susie Nassar, Andrea Adler,  Ron Dyson,  Sue Cole, Sue Le Boutillier,  Mary O'Connor-Shaver, Polly Sack,   E A Kniaz,   Donna Schmink,  Maureen Shbero,   Denise Friend,  Kae Norman,   Linda Newman,  A. ANGEL

This is Angel, we really had a hard time finding a name to match the character of this female dog, and finally we thought nothing would be more appropriate and truly expressive than 'Angel'.  Despite broken hips and legs, she never made a sound, always content, so grateful and so angelic.
We received a distress call from a lady who said this dog had been hit by a car in the morning; they found her at the gate of their house and the boys in the street said a car hit her early morning.  Several calls were made to some shelters but unbelievably they all said there was no place for her!!!! A friend of Mona Khalil happened to hear a woman talking about this story and called immediately to put her in contact with the woman who found the dog. As we still do not own an ambulance and the time element was really important, we asked Animal Friends to send their ambulance and they generously sent it immediately to collect the dog. X rays were done, many breaks were found in several places, amputation for one leg is a possibility, a special nail needs also to be inserted. It could take several operations and we expect to possibly need a wheel chair for her too.

ESMA is a 'NO KILL SHELTER'. All animals are given all the necessary and needed procedures to save their lives, and ensure them a good quality of life even if handicapped.

The time element is really tight, she is such a sweet character that even the vets that examined her said they were never confronted with such a sweet dog in all this pain, but never the less, she is still grateful with such an expressive face, and eyes that speak volumes, and she can really show her gratefulness in a way that makes you want to jump to the sky to do something for her.
We need help to give her the best medical treatment possible and to buy her the wheelchair, and a special mattress for her to sleep on till the chair arrives. We expect her to need 2- 3 surgeries.

We are calling for help on behalf of Angel. Is there anyone out there willing to help this angel???

THE OPERATION NEEDS TO BE PERFORMED BY SUNDAY MAY 18, while there is still a chance, before nerve damage sets in.

PLEASE HELP!  If you can commit please let us know by email and we will inform you how you can transfer funds for Angel's operation and treatments.

UPDATE MAY 17, 2008: Maha has her first sponsor.  Thank you "Renee"!!!

MAHA
Maha is our newest and difficult case. The picture speaks for itself: “MANGE”.  We received a report about a friendly female dog that would follow this girl every morning to be fed.  The girl made friends with her and local people hated this.  Maha did not look ok to them and they would chase her whenever she appeared and throw stones and wooden sticks at her.  But still Maha the dog showed up every morning waiting for her human friend.  The locals started giving this girl a hard time for feeding the dog and some of the street vendors told her that people were already reporting this dog to police in order to have her shot!  That’s when we received the distressed SOS. We had no trouble catching “Maha” the dog.  After arriving at ESMA and examining her, the skin condition was horrific! Her entire body covered in mange, even worse than Dori’s, the worst we have ever seen and she has trouble swallowing, which is something we are trying to figure out and fix.  But she eats well, is very friendly and likes people very much.  She will turn out to be a gorgeous dog once she is cured.

MAHA

  'Borgy the Miracle dog'

Just a couple of weeks ago we received a frantic phone call from a lady who lives in Borg El Arab in Alexandria, telling us she had pulled a dog from the main highway, he had been dragging himself between the speeding cars, after being hit by one. The lady drove him four hours to get to our shelter in Cairo. The vets told us it could take up to three months for him to walk again. A miracle happened, after just four days, Borgy started moving and is now able to stand up! Borgy is one of our many 'miracles'.

"TEE" BEFORE

"TEE" AFTER

TEE was found in El Solimaniya resort and compound on the desert road.  She was living there in a villa that had recently been sold.  The new owners did not want her there and if her condition was not bad enough, she was about to be poisoned.  Susie Nassar found her and immediately brought her to us.  Tee is now is a small buffalo, hungry, playful and recovered.

We realize you may not always be able to assist us in helping these animals, but there will always be a chance that someone you know, might. If you would kindly cross post this special appeal to some of your animal loving contacts some of them may be willing to help these animals. Without support it is becoming increasingly difficult to help these 'special cases' as our shelter is now completely full.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this appeal.
